At RHS Neuroscience Club, we believe in the power of community and the importance of giving back. That's why we started this club - to make a real difference in the world through neuroscience.
Our brain has 160 billion cells.
We have 80 billion neurons made up of 10,000 different types.
Each neuron is connected to thousands of other neurons.
With this amazing structure our brain functions as a multi-level network capable of creativity, kindness, friendship and humor.
By understanding neuroscience, we can perform better, collaborate better and learn more effectively.
Our club was founded to promote these principles to help us know ourselves and the people around us better so we can all grow, learn and enjoy life to the fullest extent possible.
At the core of our club are our values of integrity, transparency, and growth. We believe in doing the right thing, even when it's difficult.
At RHS Neuroscience Club, we take a community approach to learning and giving back through knowledge, data and information.
Neuroscience is the field of study of the nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord, and the nerves.
Neuroscience studies how the nervous system controls various aspects of behavior, cognition, emotion, and learning. People have always been curious about how thoughts form, how we feel the world around us, and what makes us behave the way that we do. From ancient cavillations, we have been wondering about disorders to the nervous system and have sought cures to deal with the symptoms and causes of nervous system disorders.
The different regions of the brain manage different functions and are connected together via neurons and neuro transmitters. Today we know that our thoughts are formed by the 160 billion cells that make our brain and the 8 quadrillion connections or neurons that connect these cells together using electrical and chemical pulses.
Neuroscience is a vast field of study with many branches including clinical disorders, developmental and molecular development and genetics, medical therapies including surgery, and modeling and engineering to use the nervous system to design and build learning and artificial intelligence.
Cognitive and behavioral neuroscience studies deal with how the brain enables mental processes such as perception, attention, memory, language, reasoning, and decision-making. as well as studies how the brain influences behavior and emotions.
Clinical neuroscience studies how neurological disorders affect the brain and nervous system, and how they can be diagnosed and treated.
A number of fields deal with developmental and molecular concepts in neuroscience.
A number of fields seek to model the functioning of the brain and the nervous system to emulate its function for building more intelligent systems.
